i will never ever reach another level of "desperate to engage with a story" as i did when i first started reading the warrior cat books. all my library had was #4 rising storm and i checked that book out and renewed it for months. i had it basically memorized. i knew every cats name. i had a little cat stencil and i traced, colored, cut out, and taped to my wall one for every single cat in the allegiances list. my longtail was the same as sss warrior cats ages before i even knew what that was. my elementary school librarian took pity on me and started ordering the rest of the books. i was finding paper cats in weird spots in my room for years and years.

If you think about it, Genos also learned the "don't expect someone to save you" lesson in the hard way. He was just 15 when his life got taken away from him, and who knows how long passed until Kuseno found him. And meanwhile, no help came. Then he started his lonely quest on his own.

Until we know for sure the circumstances how they met, it was also thanks to Kuseno, his new only found family, that Genos wasn't alone. :') Whether Kuseno was there to 'save' Genos (injured, alone, orphaned, etc) in the aftermath of his town's attack or not, he does do his part to help support & check on Genos any way he can....like a son. :') While Genos charges out into the field, armed & searching with purpose~ (Still not emotionally recovered, and it's...a wonder if Kuseno only enabled his reckless side even more, with Genos seeing his 'life' as a disposable/replaceable weapon....and esp armed with a self-destruct function. D: so whether his cyborgization was a blessing or a curse on him, it seems wc Kuseno still has his regrets for how he'd like Genos to live...) But it's hard to think of how else Genos might have handled himself early on (ex: would he have learned more self-preservation to survive on his own? had he kept his human body? or would he have been that much more lost, angry and guilt-stricken, all alone and powerless, recklessly charging towards an even earlier grave without any help), had he not had that 'second wind' from Kuseno to fix & upgrade him as needed.

So while suffering freak accidents and bad luck are...a thing, Genos soon learned that he at least can expect help to come - first from meeting Kuseno, and then from Saitama reinforcing his belief/faith in that as well.
